I had the good fortune to be interviewed by Julia Meinwald and Sam Heldt for their great 29 Hour Podcast.
There is something to be said for being asked to slow down and reflect on this life and this career that I’ve chosen. I don’t take the time to do that a lot. Honestly doing the interview, which really was more of a conversation, I couldn’t really tell you what it was that I was talking about. I listened to it though and realized that this journey has been for me all about relationships. I’ve built a loving and supportive and freaking talented community of artists. I’m so blessed to be able to create with so many inspired and intrepid artists. And I guess I’m one too. I should own that a little more.
I worked for The TAI Group for many years and they would always say, “creativity is what happens in the middle.” Creativity and invention happens when we stand in front and with each other and start to play, to challenge, to love, to respect and honor each other. How amazing that as artists who make new work we get to do this. I know it’s freaking hard at times, but damn, the thought of it makes me feel blessed.
I’m about to be in a room with people I love, doing a musical I love, with words I love and my friends have been holding me in light and celebrating this event for me and encouraging me in amazing ways. Thanks Julia and Sam for allowing me a moment to reflect and to be in such gratitude about this crazy thing I’ve made my career. You can take a listen to me wax poetical using the link below or click the photo.
Much love to you all. Let’s make more musicals and plays and films and tv shows and cabarets and tell more new stories and continue to create and be explorers. I’m feeling all grand about art right now, I know this too shall pass, so I’m gonna enjoy it while it lasts.
Sincerely,
JAM
